Indian Trail Elementary School is proud to introduce Mr. Joseph A. Wood as our new principal. Mr. Wood is a native of Louisville, Kentucky. He is a graduate of Seneca High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University and his graduate degree from Indiana University Southeast. Mr. Wood has been an educator in JCPS for over 19 years. During these years, he served 12 years at Atkinson Elementary where he taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. For the next five years he served Carter Traditional Elementary in the capacity of 4th grade teacher. Mr. Wood served in leadership capacities during all his assignments during his teaching career. Most recently, Mr. Wood held the position of Assistant Principal at Layne Elementary.

Mr. Wood states, “I believe that parent involvement is a crucial component for the development and growth of our students. I let my students know that I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. If I can make it so can they with dedication and hard work.”

Mr. Wood is committed to making sure we have the appropriated curriculum to challenge and inspire our students to learn and he invites each parent and/or guardian to take an active part in their student’s education.

Mr. Wood and his wife Shantell are proud parents of Mariah an I.U.S. student, Joseph II a student at JCTMS and a member of the All County Band, and Shania a student at Carter Traditional and a member of Future Problem Solving Team. They have finally persuaded Mr. Wood to add a new member to the family. They will soon have a dog as a pet.
